Learn to THINK in Ancient Greek! This is the key to fluency, in both reading and speaking. But how do we get there?
Pronunciation
Practice pronunciation and develop good habits from day one! Having a consistent pronunciation is essential to accelerating one's learning of a language. You'll learn pitch accent, aspirates, long vowels, all of it.
Basic Interactive Expressions
Acquire useful idiomatic classroom expressions, including greetings like “hello! how are you?” “I’m well, thank you”, "how do you say...?", "please repeat...", "what does this mean?", and everything needed for basic interactions, as well as basic descriptions.
Listening & Reading
Learn to hear the language spoken, and actually understand it, even as a beginner! One of the most novel characteristics of this curriculum, designed from the ground up to be ideal for the Zoom classroom, is its focus on training one's ability to listen and understand entirely through listening, and then to use that skill to learn to read with much greater ease than if listening were secondary. This is a very exciting technique, which is ideally suited for beginners.
A Riverside Tale · Παραποτάμια Διἡγήματα
The original stories we will be reading will take us into the lovely little world of the animals and people that live by a river in the countryside. Their endeavors and adventures will cover a great deal of core vocabulary and grammar, all carefully curated for total beginners to set every student up for success.
No previous experience in Ancient Greek is required! In the first few lessons, we will practice the pronunciation of the letters, learn key vocabulary and expressions, and then begin the exciting journey of starting to think, read, and speak in the the most beautiful, most amazing, most wonderful of all the ancient lanugages.
